Compared to the other sub-cultures in the BDSM and ‘kink’ lifestyle, Pet Play is relatively unpopular. However, it is uniquely fascinating if you fully understand how it works. Another vital feature of pet play is its flexibility – you can literally modify it to suit your preferences.
Perhaps, you are wondering the best animals for this role? Consider puppies, pigs, ponies, cows, bunnies, and even kittens. You can even switch roles whenever you want to. Interestingly, prior experience with any of these animals is not necessarily a prerequisite.
If you are looking to strengthen an owner/owned relationship, then you should consider pet play.
Ordinarily, the conventional pets are owned and rely entirely on the owners. Except the owner decides to feed them, they will not eat.
The owner also determines whether and when they get their treats and medications. The dependency is apparent.
The same setup is obtainable in kinky pet plays involving non-animal pets. The only difference is consent – you need the consent of the Pet to get into a pet play. Even in a D/s pet play, the pets only take orders from their owners. The owner dictates what to wear, when to sleep, where to go, and what to do. However, all of these are only achievable if the non-human pets give the owners their consent. The non-human pets consider themselves as “less than human.” This further heightens their feelings as a Sub and helps them execute their role to the delight of their Dom.
Now, let’s talk about how you can choose your Pet Play animal.
There are three options you can choose from, and we will discuss the three in this section.
The first method is where the submissive acts upon their instincts, and in line with the animals they have chosen to characterize. A puppy character will be ideal for subs that are loyal and playful. A pony character works fine if the Sub likes following their Dom around and being subjected to advanced training.
The dominant can also dictate the character to choose. In this case, the opinion of the Sub does not count. If he or she wants the Sub to be a kitty, then the Sub will be molded into one.
The submissive may prefer to be multi-character in nature, switching to different characters whenever they want. This option allows for experimentation and flexibility. It is suitable for temporary pet plays.
There are many reasons people go into Pet Plays. We have identified some of them below:
Pet Plays comes with an exciting form of dependency and humiliation. The Sub cannot move or vocalize freely. Instead, they rely on the directives and guidance of the Dom. In most cases, there are humiliating restrictions. For instance, the Sub is barred from using the furniture. They use a litter box instead of the toilet.
Pet Plays are fun! It comes with an immense emotional and psychological satisfaction for the practicing D/s couple, after all, it defies the conventional restrictions of humanity. Instead, it embraces flexibility and freedom. Pet Play helps with de-stressing. Hence, it comes handy for people that go through a lot of inconveniences daily at work.
If you are looking to polish or perfect your submission skills, Pet Play is a good way to start. It removes some aspects of the Sub’s humanity, and consequently, their sense of equality. The Sub ultimately shifts their focus to the Dom and how to satisfy them.
Talking about versatility, Pet Play is also a viable punishment tool. The Dom may punish the Sub if they go wrong. For instance, a sub playing a pig can be remanded in the pig stall for some time as a punishment for an offense.
The following tips will help you to get the best out of your Pet Play adventures.
Restrict the Sub from using the furniture except when allowed to.
Do not communicate verbally. Instead, adopt animal sounds like ‘mew,’ ‘wolf,’ or simpler infant words and demonstrations like ‘up,’ ‘come,’ or ‘food.’
Make the Sub eat out of bowls without using hands and cutleries or silverware.
Replace the toilet with a litter box.
Feel free to cage the Sub.
Use appropriate toys as playthings. For instance, tug-of-war toys for puppy subs.
Avoid movement via bondage.
Make pleas using the begging method of the animal you are playing.
Get the right equipment and pet wear needs.
Do not replace normal food with animal food permanently. Yes, the animal food makes things real and more interesting, they are best for a short scene. Likewise, animal foods cannot meet the nutritional needs of humans. However, you can modify human foods to mimic the appearance of animal foods. For instance, you can mash up the meatloaf using ketchup or make bake foods in shapes of bones, and others. Again, no animal food, irrespective of brand and quality, can replace human food.
Please read, understand, and follow the instructions on training or shock collars when using them. That is if you are into electric plays.
Watch out for your pup slave if you ever put them in a kennel. This is because the kennel situation and environment can damage the pup slave if they remain in there for long.
While this is not an exhaustive discussion on Pet Plays, it can pass as a basic informative summary. There are a lot more specifics, depending on what animal you decide to characterize. Irrespective of your choices, you can sexualize your Pet Play experience or keep it entirely non-sexual. The way to go will depend on the preferences of the D/s couple.
Note that this does not in any way suggest or imply bestiality. It is simply a role play between two adult human beings and within the boundaries of their BDSM, kinky, or negotiated relationship. It can make D/s more fun if you get it right and follow the basic rules.
Good luck!
